Here are some of the most frequently asked Customer Care questions (and their answers):

Does My Pet Need to Be AKC Registered to Enroll?

Absolutely not. AKC Pet Insurance (underwritten by Independence American Insurance Company) is available to dogs and cats regardless of breed or registration status.

However, if your dog is registered with the AKC, you’re eligible for an initial 30 days of pet insurance coverage, which provides diagnostics and treatments of accidents and illnesses*.

*Not yet available in all states. Waiting periods for Intervertebral Disc Disease (IVDD), Pre-Existing Conditions, and Cruciate Ligament still apply. CA and WA residents not eligible for this program. For complete details, refer to www.akcpetinsurance.com/sample-policies.

Who Is Eligible for AKC Pet Insurance?

Dogs and cats of any age are eligible in most states. However, California, Florida, Washington, and New York have a minimum age requirement of 8 weeks or older.

Will My Policy Be Cancelled Once My Pet Hits a Certain Age?

No. We believe that pets of any age deserve quality care, so we maintain your coverage for the life of your pet. The plan is set to automatically renew (don’t worry, you’ll get a renewal notice 30-60 days prior to the renewal), and this will continue regardless of your pet’s age.

What If My Pet Has a Pre-Existing Condition? Are They Still Eligible?

AKC Pet Insurance offers the industry’s best pre-existing condition coverage** for curable and incurable conditions after 365 days of continuous coverage.

**Not available in all states.

What If I Already Have a Veterinarian?

  1. Visit any licensed vet, specialist, or emergency clinic and pay your bill.
  2. File your claim with AKC Pet Insurance via mail, email, fax, or app.
  3. Our team will repay all eligible expenses via mailed check or direct deposit to your bank account.

What Coverage Is Offered by AKC Pet Insurance?

Coverage is based on the plan you select, and we have multiple offerings and add-ons, so you can customize the coverage your pet needs that best suits your budget.

I Have More Than One Pet. Are There Discounts for Multiple Pets?

***Not available in all states (including FL, WA, and TN).

How Is My Plan Billed?
